9:45 Off to talk #1.

9:57 Locked and loaded here in B410 for Jayvee’s Blogging 102.

10:03 Quoting Jayvee quotes ProBlogger.net:

The reality is that many bloggers write excellent content - however not all of them break through the clutter and rise to the top of their niche.

Very true. My thoughts to follow.

10:08 Jayvee recommends using this RSS reader:

10:13 Jayvee spills the secret on how we get our content and contest prizes:

10:20 Commercial: Jayvee flexes for Angel (hmmmm).

10:21 Jayvee spills: “How do you measure media value for blogs?”

  • via ROI
  • “IT’S EXTRA”
  • Comments as credibility multiplier (info c/o Geiser Maclang PR)
    1. WP stats to get your TOP post and compare this to your total traffic
    2. Online Media Standard
    3. Comments as “Impact Multiplier” on a -4 to +4 scale then get the sum

10:42 Jayvee’s GREAT talk done! Off to Markku’s!

10: 50 Last coffee for Mr. Markku

10:51 GAME TIME

10:59 What do you need to make a plug-in?

  • You need to solve a problem (read: make something useful)
  • You need to be PHP knowledgeable
  • You need some spare time (LOL!)
  • A test server (Markku recommends XAMPP)

11:03 Structure: Things to remember

  • A unique descriptive name
  • Naming: myplugin.php or /myplugin/<folder>
  • Readme.txt format for wordpress.org/extend/plugins
  • Plugin home page
  • File headers must be in this format:

11:14 Geek mode is officially ON! Nose bleed kung nose bleed!

11:22 Markku discusses his super plugin called STRIP!

11:25 Markku’s “STRIP!” is WOW! 8O I LIKE!

11:28 Markku’s talk…DONE!

11:40 Now at Kring’s talk re: video blogging!

11:51 Kring spills the “Sucess of video blogs aka. 4Ts”:

  • Talent
  • Timing
  • Target Audience
  • Tabs

11:52 Kring’s quick guide on how to make your video blog kick-ass:

  • Concept
    1. Think of an idea
      - has to have a purpose/motivation, can’t be random
      - if it’s a music video, what are the elements?
      - REMEMBER: Content is King and Style always goes with substance
    2. Think of a treatment
      -Give it a “you” flavor
    3. Speak to your audience
      - know your target audience and use their language
  • Script
    1. Write a script
      -full script of sequence guide
    2. Has to be coherent
    3. Write it such that you shoot to edit
-visualize everything in your head already
  • Shooting
    1. Cameras
      - consumer level handycams
      - digicams
      - Laptop cameras
    2. Microphones
      - consumer level microphones (for outdoors)
      - built in (for controlled environments)
      - laptop mics (for voice overs)
    3. Lights
      - natural lighting
      - 3 point lighting: key light, fill light, and back light
      - you may use garden lights, lampshades (soft, sepia effect)
      - use styrofoam as reflector
      - gels (for color) and gobo (for shape)
  • Editing
    1. Softwares (iMovie, Ulead, Final Cut, Adobe Premier, Vegas, or Windows Movie Maker)
    2. 4-5 minutes is the perfect total running time (TRT), 8 minutes maximum
    3. Treatment - music video/montage, VO for situationers and photos, graphics (lifetype, after effects)
  • Uploading
    1. Any format, MP4, (850 kbps for video, 128 kbps for audio)
    2. YouTube, Revver, etc.
  • DON’Ts
    1. Shoot in a dark room without lights
    2. Bad framing (head room/nose room/rule of thirds)
    3. Shoot too far from the camera because the screen online is too small!
    4. Use small chargens
    5. Shadows are enemies (unless they’re deliberate)
    6. Wear checkered clothing
    7. Zoom in and zoom out (it’s evil!!!)
    8. Be shaky! Use a tripod if necessary.
  • Costs
Should be FREE (since you already have your computers, digicams, etc.)!

12:19 Q&A time with Kring!

12:24 LUNCH TIME!!!

Jayvee’s not a fan of buchi so YAYYYYY for me!

13:47 Certificates of recognition’re given out to speakers.

13:50 Matt’s up for his “State of the Word”! *applause*

NOTE: Just my luck, the contents below this photo got wiped out so I’m rewriting based on what I remember and the photos. SIGH.

14:18 Matt gives us a preview of WP 2.7 (ETA November 2008). Drag and drop, sticky posts…name it! BuddyPress (ETA end of the year) sounds good too:

14:29 </Matt’s talk> Ria’s up on stage, hands Matt his certificate. They hug! :P

Aileen Apolo demystifies Google Analytics.

Regnard Raquedan talks about WordPress & Web Standards.

  • “Let’s kill IE7! The world will be a better place!”

16:17 Took a break and went to Red Ribbon to sort of celebrate AJ’s birthday.

19:04 Back in the theatre. Met the youngest blogger member of the audience:

So cute, he was wiggling his toes while the A/V presentation of the Mindanao Bloggers’re rolling!

19:06 Last photo of Matt and Ria:

19:10 Left CSB for the South. Passed by Macapagal, got stuck along Presidents Ave.
